The health Cabinet Secretary, Mutahi Kagwe has given a stern warning to supermarket owners who have turned a deaf ear to Government directive on safety measures to protect customers from contamination.
In his daily briefings outside Afya House on April 7th 2020, Mutahi said that the Government will not hesitate to shut down rogue supermarkets whose owners have refused to head to safety measures code as outlined by the Ministry of health.
In the outlined measures, Supermarkets are required to have a washing area outside their premises, wear protective masks when serving customers, ensure the 1 meter rule is adhered to by correctly marking the distance.
Mutahi reiterated Government’s efforts to fight Corona Virus and assured the public that public health officials were on the ground to effect Government directives.
“We have health officers on the ground and if we get reports of supermarkets serving customers who are not in masks, we will not hesitate to close them,” asserted Mutahi.
He further urged Kenyans to heed to president Uhuru’s call to wear masks each time they are going out to public areas. This he said was a recommendation from health practitioners to avoid a breakout of Corona Virus.
