Becoming a first-time mum is exciting but it can also be overwhelming. A first-time mum is always on edge worrying about what might go wrong, what can be done right, what is missing in the baby bag or if the diaper is too tight.
The crowning factor of being a first-time mother is that advise pours from all sides. I agree knowledge is power but sometimes sifting through the maze of bountiful information can be a daunting task. Below I have compiled a few tips to help you in your journey;
- Find what works for you
As aforementioned, new moms always get tons of advice. Some of it is good, and some of it is bad. Find the pieces that work for you and embrace them.
2. Don’t obsess about germs
Truly your baby is a bundle of perfection and as such, getting them sick is not in your plan. Sanitising each time is advisable but try to keep it within limits. Sanitising each time, you touch a spoon or a plate is a little over the board. Keep the baby away from sick people and take a deep breath.
3. Ask for help When You need it
If you feel overwhelmed by staying awake tending the baby, ask for help. It’s okay to have a hand looking after your bundle of joy as you enjoy a few minutes of a Jacuzzi bath.
4. Write things down
Have a memory journal for your baby. Write out all the questions you would like to ask the doctor so that you don’t forget the important ones.
5. Live a Day at a Time
Learn to be emotionally and physically present with your baby. Try and stop worrying about your chore board and treasure those moments with your bundle of joy.
6. Know your Child
Each child is a unique combination of strengths and challenges. Try to tailor your response to fit the kid in front of you.
