Safaricom former CEO who took over the leadership since 2000 until 2010 has been appointed as the Safaricom board chairman replacing one of the longest serving chairman Nicholas Ng’ang’a after his retirement.
“Michael who will start his appointment duties on August 1st 2020 will be tasked on improving sentiment, greater brand consideration and to bolster the firm’s digital transformation agenda,” Mr. Peter, the current CEO chimed.
Michael Joseph served the company as an interim CEO following the untimely demise of the telco’s CEO, Bob Collymore. Michael has been on the board since September 8,2008.
“He brings a wealth of skills and industry knowledge given his contribution to the growth of Safaricom from very humble beginning to becoming one of the most innovative, influential and profitable companies in the East African region,” added Peter on Thursday morning.
Under his able leadership, Safaricom launched one of the leading mobile money transfers, Mpesa, which has been one of the most recognised digital finance solution in Kenya. The firm keeps setting telecommunication trends in the region.
Thus far, Safaricom has been able to fill visible gaps in telecommunication. Recently, the firm expressed interest to democratise data to all in the country.
