A lot has changed in our lives since the president and his advisors at the Ministry of Health decided that the quickest, most efficient way for us to avoid succumbing to Corona Virus is to stay home and wait for it. Absolutely do nothing! Yes, you read that right. Doing nothing is the direct ticket to staying alive. Now this may seem like an easy task, and it was easy, for the first 30 seconds of day 1 of the lockdown. But I digress.
We no longer hug, kiss, shake hands, and certainly whisper sweet cheeky words into each other’s ears. That’s a change. Our children are at home, no School. Big change. Then there is change that has been gradual almost too subtle but it’s now beginning to show. Much as we may try to ignore, it keeps popping on our faces when we pass by the mirror, during a shower, and definitely when you try your favorite jeans. Yes, weight!
Many of us are growing heavier, adding flesh, becoming rounder, call it as you may, many of us are growing fat! And since you are in denial here are 7 undoubtable facts to prove that you have put on weight;
If your rings no longer slip on your finger as easily and as fast as they used to, if the rings feel tighter and have even started to imprint on your finger, Girlfriend, it’s happening! As you gain weight, your fingers begin to store some of the fat that your body is now accumulating, just like your favourite jeans the rings start to feel tighter and becomes uncomfortable. If you are no longer sliding that ring up and down your finger as easily, it’s time to take action.
Do your panties now feel more snuggly? I know that some of us need to go and try on a pantie to answer that question just about now, because we don’t do underwear at home. Well, except during those days. Because you are not in the habit of wearing your undies every day, you may not quickly notice when fat starts to accumulate on that part of your body. While it may seem like a blessing to some, for women who struggle with weight loss, an extra ounce of fat on your backside is recipe for more friction, panty lines, and needless to say loss of wardrobe.
When you gain unnecessary weight, your feet will begin to grow as a result of the extra weight on your body and a restructuring of the bone structure within your feet. As a response to the extra kilos, the bones inside your feet will compress on top, forcing your feet to become flatter. That’s why most of us will not be leaving our houses on our favorite pair of heels at the end of this lockdown, add to the fact that we are now out of practice and it’s not appealing to walk around like a disabled duckling! That’s not how we roll!
Of late you only take one meal a day, in fact your 5-year-old son consumes more food in a meal than you do in a day. But your tummy feels full, uncomfortable and when you visit the little room the gas you emit can fill a 6kg cylinder in a flash! You are constipating. As your body stores more fat, the amount of gas in your gut increases significantly due to increased acidity in your stomach. That’s why your tummy feels like a ball. Additionally, you don’t move around as much therefore all the gas accumulates in your gut and is only released when you sit in a particular position…
Mornings are becoming unbearable due to subtle back pain that you have started experiencing lately. You are now considering purchasing a new mattress or that orthopedic mattress you saw along a bill-board along Mombasa road near VitaFoam. Your mattress is perfectly fine! But your back is paying the costs of all the pressure your upper body is putting on your spine. If you have started experiencing discomfort, backpain and other related ailments on your back and it’s not that time of the month…the bells are ringing loudly for though to start the weight loss journey as early as Yesterday!
6. Unable to bend
Bending has never been a chore, but of late you realize using that pumice stone on your feet is becoming a little tricky, you don’t bend as easily as you used to and when you finally manage to bend you feel a flab of meat between your tummy and your thighs. Don’t wait for the trumpet; start with the sit-ups, planks and other stomach related workouts now. As you put on weight, your abdomen stores most of the fat, depending on your body type. Research shows that weight around the abdominal area puts one at a high risk of complicated ailments such as diabetes, hypertension, and cardiac arrest amongst other conditions you want to avoid.
7. Mood swings
Are you feeling less unstable of late? I’m sure you have a perfectly good explanation for your terrible mood swings. First, you have not been able to meet and chat with the girls for the last 4 months, and when you managed to chat 2 months ago it was over zoom or a conference call that was dotted with periods of changing diapers, yelling because the children will not just let you enjoy a minute of your life! Indeed, that could explain your mood swings but also it could be because of a fluctuation of your sugar levels that makes you grumpy and cranky. As your body stores more fat, it may not be able to optimise production of insulin so that it can regulate your blood sugar as well. That may lead to extreme mood swings that can easily be regulated by you taking the first step to losing lock-down weight.
While it might seem gloomy and impossible now, believe me, you still have a chance to change your situation today. All it takes is your decision to take the first step to weight loss. Change your attitude about food, exercise and sleep. Once you make that change, go natural eat only foods that you can trace their origin and drink lots of water and take a walk every day for 15 minutes and in a short while your lovely sexy body will be back, better, stronger, sexier!
Good luck managing your change!
