Embattled Kilifi governor could be warming up for a date behind bars after the Director of Public prosecutions; Noordin Haji revealed the grave consequences awaiting him.
Speaking on Monday 6th April, 2020, Mr. Haji disclosed that Saburi could face murder charges, according to certain set parameters in the law of the land. He disclosed that suppose a person dies as a result of interaction with Saburi, it equates to murder beyond reasonable doubt.
“What he did was a serious thing. We are not going to let him off. If a person dies as a result of interaction with Saburi, that’s murder,’’ said Haji.
According to chapter 242 of the Public Health Act, any person found guilty of spreading an infectious disease is eligible to a fine of Sh 30,000 or imprisonment of less than 3 years or both.
Saburi was accused of failing to self-quarantine after jetting back from a destination that was considered a hotbed of Covid-19. It’s argued that he ignorantly went about his normal interactions, exposing a good number of people to the deadly virus.
Even though Saburi apologized over his irresponsible behavior shortly before he was declared corona virus free on April 2, he was arrested a day later by officers from the directorate of Criminal Investigation and arraigned in court on April 6th. Saburi will be held at Bandari police station awaiting the court’s verdict on Thursday April 9th.
