The state has been doing campaigns to encourage building of Brand Kenya through various measures like ordering Government officials to adorn Kenyan clothing brands every Friday.
To back the buy Kenya build Kenya initiative, the Government recently awarded two Kenyans Sh. 200,000 to build ventilators. Samuel Kairu, Paul Kariuki and Dr. J Nderitu were awarded Sh. 200,000 by the ministry of trade to come up with a ventilator prototype.
Samuel and Paul piqued the interest of Kenyans after their ventilator creation video went viral online. The duo are said to have created a ventilator prototype in under 96 hours to cover the demand of the product in the Covid-19 crisis.
Having taken into account the creativity, efficiency and budget friendliness of the locally manufactured ventilator, the ministry of Trade through the Cabinet Secretary, Betty Maina, awarded the duo 200k to come up with a proper prototype.

Credible sources have said that the team will use the funds to buy materials, equipment and cover the necessary facilitation during the project. It’s reported that the duo were given 10 days by the state to come up with a prototype that meets International standards.
The prototype will be a valued addition to the strained medical resources as health practitioners battle Covid-19. One of the symptoms of the virus is difficulty in breathing. To aide patients whose breathing is incapacitated, ventilators are important.
