As the fight against coronavirus gathers momentum in the country, Dr. Alfred Mutua has declared business as usual for business owners in his backyard, Machakos County, citing a weak local economy should businesses shut down.
The Machakos boss took a bold step in urging business owners in his county to keep businesses open but provide alternative ways of keeping their staff and clients safe from getting in contact with the deadly virus.
Speaking during a presser in Machakos, Mutua regrettably noted that a total shut down of business in the region will see the otherwise not well off economy spiraling downwards.
Noting the fear of the dreaded Corona Virus, the governor authoritatively pointed out that the virus was dangerous but that it was not necessarily a death sentence, as widely assumed.
” Covid-19 is not a killer disease. There’s a need to counterbalance the competing interest of protecting citizens against it’s spread with the reality of its devastating impact on our fragile economy,” said Mutua.
Contextualizing his normalcy call, Governor categorically stated that the Machakos County offices will remain open and functional to serve mwananchi as its norm.
Dr. Mutua’s sentiments are a few days shy of the government’s directive to have employees in the private and public sector work remotely at their convenience.
